Navarro Research and Engineering, Inc. is recruiting a Quality Control Engineer III- Radioactive Waste Acceptance Program (RWAP)-Radiological Specialist in Las Vegas, NV.

The Quality Control Engineer III - RWAP Lead in Radiological Characterization provides technical knowledge, skills, and abilities to determine if waste generators have a Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) program that is compliant with the Nevada National Security Site Waste Acceptance Criteria (NNSSWAC) [DOE/NV-325-22-00]. Review waste profiles and waste packages for compliance with the NNSS WAC requirements.

General Responsibilities and Knowledge Skills:

*Under limited supervision, has the demonstrated ability and skill to perform complex professional tasks and to analyze and develop innovative solutions to problems.

*Understanding of principles, concepts and techniques associated with radiological characterization methods such as nondestructive assay, gross radiation measurement, scaling factors, modeling, and sampling and analysis including activity concentrations, dose rates, criticality safety.

*Demonstrated ability to interface with peers, senior management, and the client.

*Level of language skills, mathematical skills, communication skills, reasoning ability and computer skills necessary to perform essential functions of the job.

*Willingness to raise and resolve issues through formal and informal means in support of a learning environment and encourage and/or require others to do the same.

*Familiar with NNSS WAC and DOE Orders pertaining to waste management.

Specific Responsibilities and Knowledge/Skills:

*Evaluate waste generator programs to determine programmatic compliance NNSSWAC radiological requirements.

*Conduct audits and surveillances throughout the United States to evaluate the generator's radiological characterization elements, new waste streams, conduct mixed waste verifications, and verify implementation of corrective actions.

*Provide technical oversight and of new generator programs and provide technical and interpretation assistance when required.

*Assist in the review of existing processes to identify improvements.

*Identify issues, conducts investigations, and makes recommendations for corrective action.

*Serve as a radiological characterization subject matter expert.

*Demonstrate active leadership in safety, environmental protection, quality, event/issue reporting, corrective action program and other related activities supporting the RWAP.

*Lead key aspects of highly complex project work including activities critical to the success of the organization.

Requirements

*Bachelor's degree in physics, radiochemistry, nuclear engineering, health physics or other related technical discipline with experience in radiochemical characterization.

*A minimum of 5 years' experience in radioactive waste management.

*Reading, writing, and comprehension.

*Proficiency in MS Office applications and basic computer skills.

Working Conditions:

*Job is eligible for remote work, preferred locations are within 100 miles of Oak Ridge, TN, Idaho Falls, ID, Albuquerque, or Los Alamos, NM.

*Will consider part-time and full-time candidates.

*Las Vegas based employees will be expected to be in office two days a week.

*When conducting facility evaluations, air travel to a DOE site or other site may be required.

*RWAP Team members may travel up to 10 days per month, but generally no more than one week a month (M-F maximum).
