Job Overview

Under general supervision of the Boiler lead, the BOILER WATER SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN will inspect and maintain boilers, cooling towers and related auxiliary equipment at NAS Fallon; conduct daily testing, water sampling, analysis and chemical treatment of a comprehensive range of boiler systems, cooling towers and glycol streams located on NAS Fallon. Is Responsible for taking boiler water, chilled water, and cooling tower water samples daily, performing water quality tests and adjusting chemicals as necessary to maintain proper water quality specification for each system. Requires in-depth knowledge of chemical treatment methods for hydronic and steam heating and cooling systems (including appropriate use of propylene and ethylene glycol, molybdenum, and nitrate-based inhibitors).


Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

  • Perform skilled work in the operation of low-pressure heating/cooling systems by operating boiler feed pumps, circulating pumps, and water softeners.
  • Testing and maintaining water softener systems to minimize mineral build up, maintaining a chemical treatment program for open and closed systems, charting consumption and is responsible for the safe and reliable operation of the boiler plant and other essential systems to ensure continuous utility service to NAS Fallon and safeguard the continuity of business and services.

Job Requirements

Mandatory:

  • Must have three (3) years of chemical hydronic and steam system treatment.
  • Possess a valid State issued driver's License.
  • Possess an OSHA 10 card or have the ability to get one within the first 90 days of employment.
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Employee to furnish own hand tools.
  • Must be able to comprehend, read, speak and write proficiently in the English language.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional and courteous manner in diversified situations.
